Former Ghana international, Michael Essien has said he is not interested in becoming a head coach, despite his current role in football.
The ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder is now an Individual Player Coach at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, where he focuses on developing young football talent following his retirement.
Essien has made it clear that he does not aspire to take on the head coach position, citing the demands of the role and a preference for staying out of the spotlight.
However, he hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of changing his mind in the future.
“For now, I am not thinking about being a head coach; it is too stressful. I like to be behind the scenes, away from these media duties and cameras in my face. But you never know; maybe at some point,” he told Joy Sports.
“I’ve been to many places, top clubs and everything, but the Nordsjaelland organisation is second to none” he added.
He praised the Nordsjaelland organization, stating, “I want to help take the football of young Nordsjaelland players to a different level. They need some guidance, and seeing me around gives them something to learn,” he added.
Essien represented Ghana in the 2006 and 2014 World Cups, contributing significantly to the national team during his career.
