President of FC Samartex, Dr Richard Nsenkyire, has emphasized the advantages of competing in the CAF Champions League.
This marks the Timber Giants’ inaugural participation in the CAF elite competition after clinching the Ghana Premier League title last season.
Following their victory over Victoria United in the preliminary round, Dr. Nsenkyre stated that the experience gained from playing at this level has been invaluable for the players.
“Playing in Africa has given the players exposure. It’s this first time but we know that playing the Caf Champions League or the Confederation Cup gives you that exposure,” he told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.
He also mentioned that, the club has declined several offers for some of their key players, highlighting the importance of retaining their talent for the ongoing tournament.
“We have received offers for some of the players but we are playing in a tournament and we need our quality players to stay.”
In their second preliminary round match, Samartex drew 2-2 against Raja Casablanca in the first leg at Accra Sports Stadium.
They are set to face off again on Saturday, September 21, for the return leg at Stade Larbi Zaouli on Saturday, September 21.
