Ensure your nationwide protest is peaceful – IDEG, others to NDC

-

The Civic Forum Initiative (CFI), comprising key Civil Society Organisations such as the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the police to ensure that the party’s upcoming demonstration against the Electoral Commission (EC) is conducted in a peaceful and lawful manner.

In a statement released on Monday, the CFI highlighted the need to maintain order during the protest, which aims to pressure the EC into auditing the voter register.

They underscored that a peaceful demonstration would be in the best interests of both the NDC and the general public.

The CSOs expressed concerns that any disturbances could compromise the protest’s effectiveness and potentially result in legal and security issues.

They urged the NDC to work closely with the police to manage the event in a way that upholds democratic principles and public safety.

“We appeal to the NDC and all protest organizers to ensure these demonstrations remain peaceful and lawful. The safety of all Ghanaians must be the top priority, and any actions that could incite violence or unrest must be avoided at all costs.”

“We also call on the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies, operating under the direction of the Police Command, to work closely with the protest organisers to ensure that the demonstrations are peacefully managed. It is essential that the right to protest is protected while safeguarding public order,” the statement read.
