Daniel Amartey leaves Besiktas by mutual consent

-

Black Stars defender, Daniel Amartey has parted ways with Turkish club Besiktas by mutual agreement, ending a recent transfer dispute between the two sides.

Besiktas confirmed the contract termination in a statement released on Saturday, saying, “The contract between our club and professional football player Daniel Amartey has been terminated by mutual agreement.”

Amartey, who joined the club in 2023 on a two-year deal, had one year remaining on his contract.

The club had reportedly been trying to sell the centre-back, but Amartey allegedly declined to travel for a potential transfer, with Besiktas spokesperson Huseyin Yucel suggesting the player was only interested in a move to England, despite the transfer window being closed.

Amartey, however, denied the claims, calling them “untrue.”

He has not featured in any matches this season and is now a free agent, able to sign with any club of his choosing.

The 29-year-old was a key part of Leicester City’s Premier League-winning team in the 2015/16 season and has earned 55 caps for Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars.
