Don’t betray trust Ghanaians have in you – Mahama to EC

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to ensure that the trust Ghanaians have in them is not betrayed.

This comes as the NDC continues to press for its concerns with the EC to be addressed ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Mahama, who is currently on the second phase of his Greater Accra regional tour, made these remarks while addressing chiefs and people of Ngleshie Amanfrom.

He urged them to join the party’s protest against the EC, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the confidence Ghanaians have in the commission.

During the meeting, local chiefs expressed their concerns about ensuring peaceful elections. In response, Mahama referred to a recent Global Info Analytics survey, which indicated that the majority of Ghanaians trust the Electoral Commission.

He stressed that this trust must be safeguarded by addressing the NDC’s concerns in a timely manner.

Mahama recalled that before the 2016 elections, a similar audit of the voters’ register was conducted when the then opposition NPP requested it.

He suggested that such an audit could be completed within two weeks, ensuring satisfaction for all parties involved before the December polls.

The NDC leader remains focused on his campaign to win back power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) while advocating for electoral transparency and fairness.
