As a master’s degree student, Mabel Obeng is preparing the grounds to be the first female President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS).

With the election set for Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Ejisu in the Ashanti region, Miss Obeng is the only female aspirant among four males.

Describing herself as a game changer and born leader, Mabel on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, said she is more than capable of succeeding the incumbent President, Kyeremeh Oppong Daniel popularly known as KOD.

According to her, she has a leadership track record, spanning from her days in primary school as a class prefect, school prefect in Serwaa Nyarko Girls SHS and later as a local NUGS President at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

Despite not winning the presidential election, Mabel revealed she served in various commissions during her undergraduate studies which she completed in 2023.

It was due to her dedication and commitment she was appointed the Technical and Vocational Education and Training(TVET) Secretary in the 57th NUGS administration.

“I am number 5 on the ballot paper which is a unique number and I believe I have contributed to the successes of the current administration and in the position to build on it,” she said.

To Miss Obeng, after all the experiences and exposure, she decided to contest for the highest student position to drive inclusiveness, impact and touch the lives of everyone she comes into contact with.

“Except for SHS where I contested an election with all females, I mostly compete in male-dominated positions to challenge myself to empower and do more, impact the lives of all. I tap into the blessings of the first GBA President, Efua Ghartey and I believe I will be the first NUGS female president,” she said.

Outlining her visions and initiatives, the aspirant stated she will prioritise student hostels by ensuring that the Ghana hostels are resourced to build more facilities since they have the land.
