Miners at Akrokere stage demo against ‘galamseyers’

-

Mining operators in Akrokere, located in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region, have taken to the streets to protest against illegal miners who are destroying river bodies and forest reserves in the area.

The demonstrators expressed their frustration at the environmental degradation caused by those who conduct mining activities in rivers and forests, emphasizing that their own operations do not harm the environment in the same way.

According to the protesters, they mine underground, extracting rocks without disrupting forest reserves or contaminating river bodies.

They stressed that, their methods differ significantly from those of the illegal miners who work directly in water bodies and forests, causing severe damage to natural resources.

The purpose of the demonstration was to send a strong message to the perpetrators of these destructive practices, warning them to stop their activities.

The Akrokere galamseyers made it clear that they are against the environmental harm being done, and they want to protect their local ecosystem.

The protest comes amidst heightened concerns about the long-term impact of illegal mining activities on Ghana’s water bodies and forests, with many communities suffering from the aftereffects of pollution and deforestation.
