Galamsey crisis: We should not tolerate such sins against humanity- Christian Council

-

The Christian Council of Ghana has joined calls for the fight against illegal mining locally known as ‘galamsey to be intensified, stating that such sinful acts against humanity should not be tolerated.

The Council has said recent developments suggest a lack of political will in fighting the canker.

In the press release, it expressed deep concern and strongly condemned the dangers of the illegality which has polluted lands and water bodies.

“We demand that any individual, security service personnel, politician or chief found to be working to thwart the fight against illegal mining should be made to face the full rigors of the law. We wish to emphasize that galamsey has serious future health and economic repercussions for our country,” the statement read in parts.

The Council has urged the government, relevant agencies, institutions, and all Ghanaians to be bold and courageous in sustaining the campaign against the menace.

“It is therefore imperative for government to show strong commitment and roll out practical steps to end galamsey and start recovery of lands and water bodies that have been polluted by this evil practice,” it added.

The Council has also called on all Ghanaians to support the fight for the common good of the nation.
