The incumbent Member of Parliament for Agona West, Cynthia Morrison, has explained her decision to run as an independent candidate after losing the NPP primaries.
In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Morrison said, “I have not been ungrateful. I can never be ungrateful. Even Hon. Asiamah went independent, but today he is representing the NPP in Parliament.”
She expressed optimism about her chances, stating, “I am confident that I will win as an independent candidate. I am also hopeful that I could win on the NPP ticket.”
Reflecting on her experiences within the party, she noted, “I have been privileged as an NPP member, having served as Gender Minister and benefiting from various opportunities, even abroad. When the President gave me a role, I thanked him and showed my gratitude. I am not bitter at all, even if my time was brief.”
When asked if she feels the national executives are against her, Madam Morrison responded, “Even General Secretary Justin Kodua came to launch a program in my constituency but never bothered to call or inquire about me. I am not pained by this.”
Morrison’s decision to run independently comes after her defeat in the NPP parliamentary primaries on April 13, where she secured 152 votes compared to Chris Arthur’s 240 votes.
