President Nana Akufo-Addo has been honoured with the Ghana Bar Association’s (GBA) Lifetime Award, making him the first recipient of this prestigious award.

The award was conferred on him at the GBA’s annual general conference held in Kumasi on September 9.

Presenting the award, outgoing GBA President Mr Yaw Acheampong Boafo stated, “The Ghana Bar Association hereby confers on His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the first-ever recipient of the Ghana Bar Association Lifetime Award.”

The Lifetime Award is a testament to President Akufo-Addo’s decades of service to the legal profession and his exceptional leadership in both law and governance.

The recognition comes at a time when he continues to advocate for the rule of law and democracy in Ghana.

Mr Boafo highlighted the President’s distinguished legal career and his contributions to the association and the nation.

“President Akufo-Addo, who was enrolled as a lawyer on July 8, 1975, with Bar number 1195, served in several key roles within the GBA.

“He was elected President of the Greater Accra Bar and became a member of the General Council of the Ghana Bar Association. In 1995, he filed to contest for the position of National President of the GBA, but withdrew his nomination due to his political involvement at the time.”

Reflecting on his journey, Mr Boafo added, “On January 7, 2017, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was sworn into office as the fifth President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, becoming the first member of the General Council of the Bar to be elected and sworn into the high office of President of the Republic.”
