Hundreds of residents in the Alavanyo Traditional Area of the Volta Region thronged the streets to support the incumbent Member of Parliament for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu to file his nomination forms.
The submission cements Mr Amewu’s vision of serving as the voice of Hohoe in parliament and ensuring the constituency develops to be at par with other areas in the country, to restore the lost glory of the constituency.
The residents from across the traditional area threw their support behind Mr Amewu, explaining that his tenure has been an eye-opener for them, learning that MPs can champion development and not only make laws, among other constitutionally enshrined duties.
According to them, the constituency has seen unmatched development within the four years of John Peter Amewu’s administration and eight years of the Akufo-Addo government.
The electorates, mostly youth are gathered at Alavanyo Deme before heading to Hohoe to join the patriots there for the historic ceremony.
A resident, Fortune Kofi Sunu said the Alavanayo area if for nothing at all has benefited from a street light project under John Peter Amewu, which the NDC failed to do after several requests.
He, however, said the elections would be tough for Mr Amewu since electorates in the Alavanyo area are divided, because the National Democratic Congress’s Parliamentary aspirant, Worlanyo Tsekpo hails from Alavanyo Kpeme.
“For me, I am happy with what John Peter Amewu has done and believes he will do more in his next term. But those who are blind say they have not seen any development within the last four years. I pray God opens their eyes before December 7th.
“It is the development we want and anybody who champions development must be supported with the thumps of the electorates”, he said.
Another constituent, Samuel Amezo lauded Mr Amewu for delivering beyond their expectations gauging his achievements against the NDC which occupied the parliamentary seat for about 28 years.
He singled out the quick response by Mr Amewu to the request to construct a youth centre and furnish it with a television set and DSTV, with unlimited access in Alavanyo Deme, indicating the incumbent MP is a man of his word and committed to their development.
He also mentioned the construction of a public toilet and other human resource development initiatives undertaken by Mr Amewu including scholarships, skill development support and job opportunities.
“The elephant brought relief to us, we were deceived in the early days. Now we have witnessed what the NDC and NPP can do and we won’t go back to pick the umbrella anymore. We are safe and seeing development with the elephant on our side”, said an elderly woman while signalling the huge size of the elephant.
