As the 2024 elections draw near, the People’s National Convention (PNC) has sworn in its newly elected executives with a call to prioritize Ghana’s interests.
PNC National Chairman, Samson Asaki Awingobit, addressed the media, emphasizing the need for a generational shift in the country’s leadership.
Chairman Awingobit appealed to 60-year-old retirees from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to relinquish their positions and allow the youth to take the reins. He stressed that it is time for the younger generation to lead the country, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the table.
In his acceptance speech, PNC flagbearer Bernard Mornah emphasized that the party’s work begins immediately.
He outlined plans to criss-cross the country, ensuring the party is well-prepared to file its presidential nomination.
Mr. Mornah also extended an olive branch to former party members, urging them to return and strengthen the PNC’s chances of taking power from the NPP and NDC.
He reflected on his past sacrifices for the party, specifically mentioning his support for former leader David Apasera.
Mr. Mornah encouraged Mr. Apasera to concede defeat and prioritize the party’s interests, promoting unity and cohesion within the PNC.
The PNC’s call for a generational shift in leadership comes as Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections. With the country’s youth population growing, there is an increasing demand for fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to address Ghana’s challenges.
The PNC’s emphasis on youth leadership may resonate with voters seeking change and a new direction for the country.
