2024 polls: Next NDC govt will end corruption in sale of premix fuel – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

The Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has pledged to eliminate corruption in the distribution of premix fuel and subsidy support to fishermen if the NDC is elected into power.

Speaking at a durbar of chiefs and residents in Shama, she expressed concern over how corruption has allowed non-fishermen to take control of premix fuel distribution, depriving legitimate fishermen of the resources needed for their livelihood.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured that under the NDC administration, there would be transparency in the allocation of premix fuel and fishing equipment, contrasting it with the current government’s alleged secretive practices.

“When we were in power, we provided fishing gear such as nets, premix fuel, and outboard motors to fishermen openly. Now, there’s so much secrecy in the sale of premix fuel, and individuals who are not even fishermen are profiteering from it.”

“Fish don’t have political affiliations; everyone buys them. We must take care of the fishermen, and I understand their struggles because I come from a fishing community,” she emphasized.

As part of her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang visited various constituencies, engaging with traders, chiefs, and residents.

She promised to address development challenges, improve road infrastructure, and introduce initiatives such as the Women’s Bank and a 24-hour economy.

The campaign will continue in constituencies like Essikadu-Ketan, Sekondi, Takoradi, Effia, and Kwesimintsim.
