2025 AFCONQ: Why Jordan Ayew reported to Black Stars camp late

-

Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante-Twum, has shed light on why Jordan Ayew arrived late to the Black Stars training camp.

Ayew, 30, made a summer transfer move to Leicester City from Crystal Palace on a two-year deal.

Despite being included in the 23-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger, Ayew missed the team’s initial two training sessions held in Accra and Kumasi.

The former Aston Villa striker eventually joined the Black Stars on Wednesday and took part in the afternoon training session.

In an interview, Asante-Twum explained that Ayew had requested additional time to settle in after his move to Leicester.

“Jordan Ayew joined Leicester City during the transfer window from Crystal Palace so he informed the technical team that he would need a day or two to move his belongings to his new place and the technical team agreed but we are grateful that he finally joined the team on Wednesday morning,” he told Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.

The Black Stars will face Niger in their second Group F match in Berkane on Monday, September 9, with Ayew expected to play in all upcoming fixtures.
