Tia Kabiru reacts to rerun of Walewale parliamentary primary

-

The embattled New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Walewale constituency, Tia Kabiru, has responded to the Tamale High Court’s ruling that mandates a rerun of the primary election.

The full judgment is expected to be delivered on September 12, 2024, as announced by the presiding judge on Monday, September 2.

Following the court’s decision, Tia Kabiru shared a brief reaction on his Facebook page, stating “Ah well” and using the hashtag #PrioritisingThePeople.

Tensions escalated when a court injunction was issued, preventing Tia Kabiru from presenting himself as the elected parliamentary candidate for the NPP in Walewale.

Reports indicate that the court ruled for the primary election, which was disrupted by chaos, to be re-run.

With the 2024 general elections scheduled for December 7—just 96 days away—this ruling adds significant pressure on the candidates in the Walewale constituency.

The ruling is particularly crucial given that the constituency is the home base of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer.

The situation in Walewale has been tense since late January 2024, when the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lariba Zuweira Abudu, was narrowly defeated by Tia Kabiru, who serves as a special adviser to Dr. Bawumia, by a margin of just seven votes.
