2025 AFCONQ: Jonas Adjetey replaces injured Alexander Djiku for Angola, Niger games

-

FC Basel defender, Jonas Adjetey Adjei has been called up to replace the injured Alexander Djiku in Ghana’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Djiku suffered a thigh injury during a league match for Fenerbahce on Friday, leading coach Otto Addo to select Adjetey as his replacement.

The 20-year-old defender, who has shown great promise in the Swiss Super League, will be joining the Black Stars for the first time as they prepare for vital matches against Angola and Niger.

Adjetey began his football journey at Teshie Football Academy before playing for Accra Great Olympics and Berekum Chelsea. His impressive performances eventually led to his move to FC Basel.

This season, Adjetey has been a key player for Basel, appearing in all six of their Swiss Super League matches.

He is expected to report to the Black Stars’ camp on Monday to start preparations for the qualifiers.

Ghana is scheduled to play against Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on September 5 and will then travel to Berkane, Morocco, to face Niger on September 9.
