You didn’t act well – Nana Akomea tells Ablakwa over his clash with Oppong Nkrumah

-

Former Minister for Information, Nana Akomea, has slammed Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Assurance Committee, for what he termed an unwarranted attack on the Minister for Works and Housing, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Tensions flared during a committee meeting when Ablakwa demanded that Nkrumah retract and apologize for referring to his role as a “bully pulpit.”

The controversy stemmed from concerns regarding delays in completing housing units for victims of the Akosombo dam spillage. Ablakwa insisted that the Minister’s remarks were inappropriate and sought a formal apology.

In response, Minister Oppong Nkrumah questioned whether he was being denied the opportunity to address the issues raised and defend himself against the accusations. He emphasized that if he was being accused of insincerity or deflection, he deserved the right to respond.

During a discussion on Metro TV, Nana Akomea, who is also the Managing Director of Intercity STC, addressed Ablakwa, suggesting that he could have managed the situation more effectively without attacking the Minister.

“Clearly, Sammy, I don’t think you handled this well. We are all concerned about the plight of the 1,300 victims who have been living in tents for over a year. The focus should be on addressing their situation, which is why the Minister was invited to the committee,” Akomea remarked.

“However, throughout the week, the discussion has shifted from the victims’ plight to your confrontation with the Minister and his rebuttal. Both of you are entitled to your perspectives, but the focus should be on the issues at hand, not personal disputes.”

He continued, “Those who appear before you are your guests. You have invited them, and while you can be forthright, you must also protect their integrity. I disagree with your conduct during the sitting, but I will not attack you personally or label you as arrogant, as you might perceive that as a personal affront.”
