2025 AFCONQ: Alexander Djiku ruled out of Angola, Niger games due to an injury

-

Alexander Djiku has been ruled out of Ghana’s upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger due to an injury, according to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The Fenerbahce player, who competes in the Turkish Super Lig, was forced to leave the field during a match against Alanyaspor on Friday evening after suffering a thigh injury in the 61st minute.

Initial medical scans revealed that Djiku sustained a Grade One strain in the quadriceps muscle of his right thigh, which will require 10-14 days for recovery. As a result, he will be unavailable for the AFCON qualifiers.

Djiku was originally included in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad for Ghana’s matches against Angola and Niger.

Since his debut for Ghana in October 2020, the hard working centre-back has made 31 appearances for the Black Stars.

Ghana is set to host Angola’s Palancas Negras in their first Group F match at the Baba Yara Stadium on September 5, before travelling to Berkane to face Niger in their second group game on September 9.
