Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWL) has announced its ambitious target to achieve 100% water coverage across the country by 2030.
The Chief Manager of Public Relations and Communications at GWL, Stanley Martey in an interview, discussed the company’s strategic measures to ensure a consistent and reliable water supply nationwide.
He revealed that, GWL plans to expand its operations to reach every corner of Ghana.
Mr. Martey emphasized that this initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
He noted that, GWL currently provides water coverage to 80% of the country.
“We have a development plan to achieve 100 percent water access by 2030. This goal aligns with the UN’s SDG targets, our government’s vision, and our company’s objectives. We are fully committed to making it happen.
“In 2020, we initiated the construction of several treatment plants, all aimed at meeting the 2030 targets. Currently, coverage stands at around 80 percent, and with our development plan in place, we are confident that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we will reach the 100 percent target by 2030,” he told Citi News.
