Gov’t officials will be banned applying for scholarships – Mahama

-

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has said all government appointees and politically exposed individuals under his next administration will not be allowed to apply for scholarships.

Mr. Mahama is of the view that the current NPP-led administration has mismanaged scholarship schemes meant for underprivileged individuals.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC manifesto on Saturday, the former President called for significant reforms to ensure that scholarships are distributed fairly and transparently.

“Government scholarships have been fraught with a lot of ‘kalabule,’ meaning deceit. We want to streamline it,” Mr Mahama stated.

He added that, the disqualification of politically-exposed individuals and government appointees will give the marginalized in society the opportunity to access quality education.

“No political appointee must apply for the scholarships; you must pay. Children underprivileged, those who cannot afford it, are the ones who must get the scholarship,” he pointed out.
