The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has pledged to establish dialysis centres in all 16 regions of Ghana if he wins the upcoming elections.
According to him, setting up dialysis centres in every region will help alleviate the difficulties faced by patients who currently have to travel long distances for treatment.
Speaking during the NDC manifesto launch in Winneba on August 24, he said, “We will establish modern dialysis centres in hospital in regions that don’t have them. Currently, most of Upper West, my own hometown Bole, and other places, if you have a kidney ailment, the only place you can go for treatment is in Kumasi.”
“You have to go with your wife, your family and find a place to stay which is a burden. And we want to make sure that every region has a modern dialysis centre so that we can ease the burden on persons with kidney ailment.”
In addition to the dialysis centres, Mr. Mahama also promised to build modern hospitals in underserved areas, including Bawku and Yendi, to improve healthcare access throughout the country.
