The Volta Regional Chairman of the NPP has ridiculed claims by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the NPP is using propaganda and financial inducements to harness votes in the Volta Region.
Makafui Woanya said Voltarians have identified that the governing party is development-oriented hence aligning with it, leading to dwindling electoral fortunes of the NDC, in its supposed stronghold.
He was addressing the press in Ho, to respond to “false claims” by Mr. Mahama during his campaign tour of the Volta Region.
Mr. Woanya mentioned among others the Free SHS policy, the Agenda 111 Project, the UHAS Phase Two Expansion Project, the Ho-Sokode and Eastern Corridor Road Projects, and the Keta Water Supply Expansion and Rehabilitation Project.
Others were the 5 Districts Water Supply Scheme, Sports infrastructure development, and Tema-Mpakadan railways as projects that won the hearts of the people of the region, convincing them to vote for the NPP.
“With the above facts and demonstration of projects that the NPP has undertaken in the Volta region as against the total neglect and abysmal performance of the NDC under Mahama when they had the opportunity to govern this country.
“It should not be too difficult for Mahama and the NDC to understand why the people of the Volta Region, particularly the youth would want to identify with the NPP and why the fortunes of the NDC are dwindling.
“Times have changed and the people are now wide awake and would demand accountability from politicians and political parties rather than blind faith and religious attachment to the NDC. The changing trends are neither due to propaganda nor financial inducements”, he said.
Mr Woanya also questioned Mr Mahama’s intention to describe the Keta Port project as a political gimmick, explaining that the coronavirus pandemic delayed the project which has since seen some progress.
He also noted that, the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer was apt, as his role was to supervise the procedures in establishing the Port and ensure due diligence.
“The issuance of an Executive Instrument declaring the Keta area as a port zone is laudable and an invitation to the global investment community.
“Feasibility studies have been concluded and advertisements for the expression of interest have been published contrary to what Mahama said.
“The construction of the office complex is ongoing. So it is disingenuous and shameless for a former President to describe such efforts as 419 and a container office. If he was interested, he would have
visited the site to apprise himself”, he added.
Mr Woanya chastised the NDC Leader for exhibiting “fake love” towards the people of the Volta Region, indicating that the opposition party is only interested in votes from the region and not its development.
“In any case, the Volta Region does not belong to Mahama and the NDC. And Mahama cannot pretend to love the Volta Region more than we the Voltarians.
“The Volta Region has never been part of his strategic considerations. Our region is only important so long as it serves as a reservoir of votes.
“We are aware of Mahama’s dislike and vindictive reprisal against Voltarians. Nothing else”, he stressed.
Mr Woanya concluded with a stern warning to the NDC to brace itself for further dwindling of its electoral fortune.
