The National Peace Council remains optimistic that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will eventually agree to sign the peace pact ahead of the December elections, despite the party’s current reservations.
The NDC has laid out specific conditions that they insist must be addressed before considering the signing of the peace pact.
The party’s National Chairman, Asiedu Nketia, has expressed scepticism about the effectiveness of past peace agreements, arguing that they have failed to achieve their intended outcomes.
However, speaking to journalists in Accra, Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, expressed confidence that the NDC will ultimately commit to the peace process.
“The NDC has not categorically refused to sign. They have raised some concerns, and we will meet with them to discuss these issues and work towards resolving them.
“I don’t think this is something we need to be overly concerned about. Our doors are always open. We engage with the parties, we listen to them, and we seek solutions to address their grievances.
“Those within our capacity, we will address. Some matters may be beyond our control, but we remain hopeful that they will sign the pact,” he said.
