Some Teacher trainees are calling for an extension of the academic calendar after the Colleges of Education Teachers Association Ghana (CETAG) called off its two-month-old strike.

CETAG called off its strike on Tuesday after reaching an agreement with the government in a meeting with the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Pension.

Despite this decision, CETAG has cautioned that if the government fails to follow through on the agreed-upon road map, the association will resume the strike by the end of October 2024.

However, academic activities are yet to resume on campuses across the country as many students who left for their homes also yet to return.

But the trainees believe an extension of the calendar will help to make up for the lost time.

The strike, which began on June 14, was initiated due to the government’s failure to implement agreed arbitral awards and improve working conditions for CETAG members.
