The Spokesperson to the Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif has said his boss cannot be associated with any corrupt act concerning funds paid for the coverage of the African Games.
Jamaludeen Abdullah argued that, Mr Ussif is not corrupt and not even naysayers can tag him as such.
Mr Abdullah said this in an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, stating he was taken aback by the commentaries on social media.
“Some people have made themselves scandalpreneurs and once they smell money, they attribute it to corruption.
“But at the Ministry of Sports, even if you don’t like the Minister, you can’t associate him with corruption because he is transparent in his operations,” he stated.
The aide’s comment comes in the wake of the controversy over the payment to Ghana Broadcast Corporation (GBC) to produce and broadcast the 13th African Games hosted in Accra.
The Sports Minister when he appeared before the Public Accounts Committee(PAC) revealed that GBC received over $3 million for the task.
However, GBC’s Director General, Prof. Amin Alhassan, quickly responded, stating that GBC’s actual share was only $105,000, with the remaining funds forwarded to third parties.
This discrepancy has led to public outcry and calls for greater accountability.
But Mr Abdullah has said the Ministry had a contract with GBC and has executed its part of the bargain.
He emphasised that letters intercepted and signed by the Director-General, show that GBC requested payment from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, which was subsequently honoured.
