Farmers in the country are growing increasingly desperate due to the delay in rainfall this year.

This is severely affecting their efforts, particularly in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region.

In interviews with Adom News, maize farmers from Pruso, a farming community in the Berekum West District, expressed their frustration over the impact of the delayed rains on their farming activities.

They reported that despite their hard work, their maize crops have failed to thrive due to the prolonged lack of rain.

Kwabena Cancheon, one of the affected farmers, mentioned that he had prepared his land and was supposed to start planting his maize in late June.

However, by August, he still had not been able to plant, which could lead to significant losses for him and other farmers if the situation persists.

Frederick Kwasi Danso, the Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), warned of potential food scarcity and rising food costs if the delay in rainfall continues.

He advised that the country should consider adopting irrigation methods and cultivating drought-tolerant crops, as rainfall patterns have become increasingly unpredictable due to climate change.
