National Tenants’ Union disappointed by NPP’s unfulfilled housing promises

-

The leadership of the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana has expressed deep disappointment with the housing policy proposals featured in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Housing Manifesto.

The union pointed out significant inconsistencies, broken promises, and recycled proposals that have characterized the NPP’s housing policy approach since 2016.

This reaction follows a statement by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the party’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18.

During the event, he announced that the next NPP administration would introduce a National Housing Programme aimed at incentivizing the private sector to provide Ghanaians with access to decent, affordable housing in well-planned settlements.

However, the Secretary-General of the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana, Fredrick Opoku, responded by stating that the recent manifesto launch only confirmed the union’s long-standing concerns and fears.

“We are deeply concerned about the repeated promises. Every election year, we hear politicians making these commitments. As Secretary-General of the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana, I have been involved in numerous negotiations that have yielded no results, so it was disheartening to see the NPP present recycled promises, especially when their commitments from 2016 and 2020 remain unfulfilled,” he said.
