Running mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has criticized the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly copying the NDC’s pledge to establish a Women’s Development Bank.

During the launch of its 2024 manifesto, the NPP announced plans to create a Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund to support women-owned businesses if they win the December 7 polls.

However, speaking to traders at Mallam Market during her visit to various market centers in Accra, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang questioned the NPP’s commitment to this policy, asking why such an initiative hadn’t already been implemented during their time in office.

She highlighted that, the NDC was the first to propose the Women’s Development Bank and urged voters to remain vigilant and informed as they prepare to cast their ballots.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized that the upcoming election should center on the state of the economy and which candidate is best equipped to drive progress and development in the country.

“Be wary of those in the NPP who claim they plan to initiate a fund. We were the ones who introduced the initiative in the first place. If they truly intend to follow through, why haven’t they done so yet? No one is preventing them from taking action.

“We pioneered the Women’s Development Bank initiative. Let’s be vigilant and make informed decisions at the polls.”

“This year’s election isn’t about party loyalty; it’s about the state of our economy. Let’s vote for the candidate who will help drive progress and development in our country.”
