Off-duty police officer arrested for alleged murder in Accra

The Police have arrested a ride-hailing driver, later identified as an off-duty Police officer, for allegedly shooting a man at Koans Estate near Kuntunse in Accra on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

The incident occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday following a reported confrontation between the deceased, Stanley Ahadzi, and General Constable Smith Gyeke over a disputed fare.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the suspect remains in Police custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, Inspector-General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, along with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), has visited the family of the deceased to express their condolences and assured them that the incident will be thoroughly investigated, with the officer involved facing justice.

A Police clinical psychologist and other officers have been assigned to support the family during this difficult time.

The Police wish to reassure the public, particularly the family, that justice will be served.
