Atetem residents cry for CHPS compound to save pregnant women

-

The residents of Atetem in the Adansi Asokwa District of Ashanti are urgently appealing for the establishment of a CHPS compound to address the severe lack of healthcare facilities, particularly for maternal care.

This plea was highlighted during a visit by Adom News to assess the challenges facing the community.

During the visit, Adom News correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo spoke with several women in Atetem who shared their harrowing experiences in seeking maternal care.

They recounted an incident where a woman in labor was forced to sit on a motorbike due to the absence of proper transportation. When the motorbike proved too difficult, they resorted to a tricycle, which nearly resulted in disaster as it failed to climb a hill and reversed dangerously.

The women shared other instances of pregnant women being transported to the hospital in similarly perilous situations.

They stressed the urgent need for a CHPS compound to provide basic health and maternal services within the community.

Unit Committee Chairman and Acting Odikro of Atetem, Opanin Kwaku Owusu, also expressed his concerns.

He made a heartfelt appeal to a local philanthropist and businessman, known for his generosity towards the community, to once again extend his support by helping establish a CHPS compound.

Owusu emphasized that the nearest healthcare facilities in Fomena or Asokwa are far away and accessing them is both dangerous and difficult.

Despite reporting their plight to the district assembly, they have yet to receive any positive response.

The residents of Atetem hope their plea will be heard, and action will be taken to provide much-needed healthcare services in their community.
