Include infusion products in the list of restricted products – Local pharmaceutical firms

-

Local pharmaceutical manufacturer, Intravenous Infusion is pushing for the Food and Drugs Authority to include infusion products in the list of restricted products that are imported into the country.

According to the company, this is critical to ensure that local producers don’t lose out on the market as many of the imported products can be produced locally.

Managing Director for Intravenous Infusion PLC, Moukhtar Soalihu made the appeal when the company appeared before investors of the Ghana Stock Exchange to present its fact behind the figures for 2023.

According to him, local pharmaceutical manufacturers should be protected since Ghana has the capacity to produce for the entire sub region.

“The key thing is that countries must be able to build internal capacity so that they can produce domestically. The rules of international trade permit you to look at certain products that are in your strategic interest. We have the capacity to produce. We’re producing for both the local and West African market. I can tell you that we have more resources to do that” he told Joy Business.

Intravenous Infusion has returned to winning ways in its 2023 performance after posting some losses in the previous year’s financial results.

Presenting the latest results to investors and shareholders on the Ghana Stock Exchange, the company is hoping to maintain its dominance on the local market as well as explore other opportunities in the West African Market.

As one of the influential players on the Ghana Alternative Market, Intravenous Infusion has been commended for the turn-around of its operations.
