2024 polls: NDC threatens to storm EC office

-

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned of potential actions against the Electoral Commission (EC) due to the delay in releasing the provisional voter’s register for the upcoming December elections.

The NDC had earlier urged the EC to release the provisional register ahead of the scheduled exhibition exercise.

The party mentioned that the EC had committed to providing the register to political parties by Friday, August 16, 2024.

However, when NDC representatives visited the EC office on the appointed date, they were turned away.

In an interview with Accra based Citi News, the NDC’s Deputy IT Director, Rashid Tanko Computer, expressed frustration over the situation and hinted at organizing protests at the EC office if the register is not released promptly.

“We were told that the register was not ready and that they would inform us when it was. This is completely unfair.

“Meanwhile, we have information that the 2024 register, including the 2023 entries and the recent mop-up registrations, has already been printed. So, why are they withholding it from us?

“This is baffling. We’re urging the public to put pressure on the EC to release the register immediately. With just four days left before the exhibition, it’s unacceptable for a major political party like the NDC not to have the register.

“That’s why we’re calling on the public. If the EC doesn’t release the register, we’ll mobilize and demand it. It’s our legal right according to the C.I.,” he stated.
