My vindication a priority than GH¢93m reward – Tobinco CEO

-

The Group Chairman of Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Limited (TPL), Elder Dr Samuel Amo Tobbin, has said he is very satisfied with the Accra High Court’s vindication over the allegations of importing fake drugs.

“What happened was that when they calculated, they gave us GHC24 million and an additional 500 and something thousand and 60 something thousand [GH¢24,003,157.20, GH¢511,414.35 for demurrage and GH¢67,300, for bonded warehouse]. This is what the court offered us. This one that the court offered us, we had to work it out 8 years ago. So the 8 years ago interest is what has increased to 90 something [GH¢93,905,760.79],” he explained.

An Accra High Court presided over by Her Ladyship Audrey Kocuvie-Tay on July 29, 2024, cleared Tobinco of all allegations contrary to claims made by Dr Opuni.

The ruling comes after five years of legal battle which commenced on July 19, 2019.

The court ruled that the accusations were baseless and that the Dr. Opuni-led FDA constituted an abuse of power.

The court added it found evidence of coercion in obtaining confession statements from Elder Dr. Tobbin and Mr. Kamath, using documents prepared by the BNI with letterheads taken from  Tobinco’s offices.
