I hope Homowo Cup triumph will inspire us next season – Hearts of Oak coach

-

Hearts of Oak coach, Aboubakar Ouattara, is optimistic that winning the 2024 Homowo Charity Cup will be a turning point for the team in the upcoming season.

The Phobian Club struggled last season, only avoiding relegation by defeating Bechem United 3-2 on the final day of the Ghana Premier League.

Hearts of Oak defeated Heart of Lions 8-7 in a penalty shootout after the game ended 1-1 in regulation time.

After the win, Ouattara believes this victory marks the beginning of a new era for the team and that they will see a new-look Hearts of Oak in the upcoming league.

“I am proud because last season [fans] suffered and after, I think this trophy is just the beginning of the league. Maybe we can see a new-look Hearts of Oak in the league,” the Ivorian manager said.

According to the Ivorian coach, the team’s players already possess the talent but need to improve their performance.

He believes that with time to prepare, Hearts of Oak can fine-tune their skills and be ready for the upcoming season.

“These boys already have the talent, now left with performance. It’s like a diamond that needs polishing before being sold. We have time to prepare, less than a month.”

The team kicks off their campaign against newly promoted side Basake Holy Stars on September 6 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
