Parties skipping debates are afraid or have nothing to offer – Political Analyst

-

A renowned Political Analyst at Heritage Christian University College, Professor Ebenezer Ayesu, has endorsed the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) call for Presidential and Vice-Presidential debates in October 2024.

According to him, political parties who skip the debate are either afraid or have nothing to offer.

In an interview with Adom News, Professor Ayesu emphasised that such debates are an essential part of the democratic process and allow ordinary Ghanaians to gain insight into the mindset of the candidates.

He is therefore of the view that any political party that refuses to participate in the debates should be questioned.

The IEA has announced plans to host the debates in October, following engagements with various political parties to ensure their participation.

The exact dates, times, and venues will be announced after further consultations with candidates and their parties.

This development comes after the National Democratic Congress(NDC) initially criticised the IEA for a lack of engagement.

However, the IEA has since initiated discussions with political parties to ensure their involvement in the debates.

The initiative aims to provide voters with a clearer understanding of each candidate’s policies and offer a platform for candidates to be evaluated.
