About 45 Ghanaian students have been awarded the Erasmus Mundus Joint Scholarship by the EU to study in Europe.
The awardees will enrol for a two-year Master’s Degree programme in various fields across different universities in EU member states such as Germany, Italy, Austria, France, Spain, Hungary, Greece and Serbia, among others, for the 2024 to 2026 academic years.
This was announced at the pre-departure information session for the beneficiaries at the residence of the EU Ambassador to Ghana in Accra yesterday.
The Erasmus Mundus programme is an EU-funded scholarship for about 1,000 third-country students and EU/European Economic Area (EEA) students for Euroculture Master Course from grants each year.
The awardees are expected to commence the academic year in September.
Advice
The EU Ambassador to Ghana, Irchad Razaaly, congratulated the beneficiaries and advised them to take advantage of the programme to learn new cultures and also share their culture with colleagues from other countries across the world during their stay in Europe.
“You will have the unique opportunity to get not only top-level academic experience, but also enjoy a diverse cultural experience.
“Please make the most of it, enjoy the most of your stay, acquire the most you can from Europe and I can tell you, you will do better as well by sharing what you are bringing with you from Ghana,” he added
The ambassador further said that the EU was committed to being a strong partner of Ghana in supporting education, we “believe in the future of students of this country as we aim to nurture future leaders, foster global networks and create more inclusive societies here in Ghana, in Europe and elsewhere”.
Vision
The Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, urged the beneficiaries to have a vision-driven attitude as they learn about the beautiful things other countries were doing.
He admonished them not to limit themselves or be timid as Africans, but be vocal and participate in every activity required of them, and project the good image of Ghana as ambassadors.
For his part, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, in a speech read on his behalf by the Director of Policy Planning Monitoring and Evaluation of the ministry, Gloria Bortele Noi, also advised the beneficiaries to demonstrate a high sense of duty, professionalism and teamwork in whatever they do.
Appreciation
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Sandra Enyonam Apatu, a beneficiary from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), expressed gratitude to their benefactors on behalf of her colleagues for the opportunity offered them.
