A maiden Sports Betting conference to promote responsible betting among the youth in Ghana is set to be held in Accra.
The ‘Nkrataasem’ Sports Betting event is scheduled for Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to stress the need for responsible betting and the risks involved.
Sports betting has become increasingly prevalent among the youth in Ghana, where predicting the outcomes of sports events and placing wagers has turned into a widespread activity.
Many young people frequently win, making it a lucrative venture for others to explore.
Sports betting websites and companies like Nkrataasem.com provide odds, betting tips, and strategies to assist bettors.
The Gaming Commission of Ghana is actively ensuring that betting companies enforce the legal betting age of 18 years and above.
There is a strong need for more awareness about responsible betting, as it can become addictive and has its own set of implications.
The event will cover risk management, betting strategies, and understanding odds, with insights from experienced tipsters like Enokay69, LilMo GH and Enock Smith.
Guest speakers, including Prof. E.K. Wallace (Broadcast Journalist and Head of Sports of Adom Cluster, Multimedia Group Limited), Noel Nutsugah (Lecturer at UniMAC- IJ and head of Public Relations Department) and Andy Kerm, top radio and television sports pundit from Kessben Media in Kumasi will also share their knowledge on sports betting.
Hosting the event will be TV personality, Natalia Andoh, a counseling psychologist and a broadcast journalist.
As the first sports betting event in Ghana organized by Nkrataasem.com, the event seeks to educate the youth about the nuances of sports betting.
In an interview with Alex Kobina Stonne, CEO of Nkrataasem.com, he highlighted the alarming number of young people involved in betting and emphasized the need for education on responsible betting, understanding risks, and betting psychology.
He reiterated that, the 10 per cent tax on every bet winning generates revenue for the government so it is important we educate youth on sports betting since it has become a source of revenue for the country.
In Mr. Stonne’s view, the 10 per cent tax on betting is generating more revenue to the nation than the Electronic levy (E-levy).
“The fortunes of the country could be changed if our leaders properly manage funds generated from the betting tax” he added.
Mr. Stonne hopes this inaugural event will make a significant impact on betting enthusiasts and aims to make it an annual affair every August.
