Next NDC gov’t will revitalize the film industry – Kafui Danku

-

Ghanaian actress, Kafui Danku has expressed optimism that the Ghanaian film industry could see significant improvement if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wins the upcoming December 7, election.

Kafui acknowledged that, the film industry has faced numerous challenges, leading to its slow progress.

Despite these persistent issues, she remains hopeful that an NDC victory will bring positive change.

“Funding and distribution have always been challenges, but things have only gotten worse; the situation has further declined. I was hoping for improvement, but if we all stop putting in effort or lose our passion, it will never get better. So, we need to keep working, continue doing our part, and perhaps try something different to see if it brings a positive change.

“I’m still hopeful that things can improve, especially if my party wins. When the NDC is back in power, it will get better,” she expressed in an interview on Hitz FM.

The filmmaker also believes that the NDC’s Presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama’s ideas hold great promise for the arts industry.

“I’ve been closely following John Mahama’s campaign, his posts, and everything he’s been doing. He’s very passionate about our industry. I’ve heard him talk about how he can’t wait for us to have access to 5G so we can create content. He has plans for us. You’ve probably seen in the news how he’s supported veteran actors. It’s clear he has a passion for the arts and cares about those who paved the way. So, I know that when he’s back in power, he will do something to make things better,” she said.

She further commented on the economic conditions under the New Patriotic Party, which she believes have been unfavourable to Ghanaians.

“I am Ghanaian. I live in Ghana. I work in Ghana. I eat and breathe in Ghana. Are you not feeling the heat? Let’s just go back to the basics. During a different era, we had a more stable exchange rate; it was much better. I was working on a project that got stuck because of fluctuating quotes. When I save money for a project, by the time I want to proceed, the costs have changed again. The cost of living has really affected me over the past few years. A lot has happened. So, I believe change will be better,” she added.
