The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the dates for the exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register ahead of the upcoming Mop-Up Voter Registration exercise.
The head of the Training Department at the Commission, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, made tis known in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday.
He stated that, the exhibition will take place from August 20 to 27, 2024.
Dr. Quaicoe encouraged all eligible voters to verify their details on the register to ensure accuracy and transparency in the electoral process.
“We urge every registered voter to participate in the exhibition exercise to confirm their details,” he said.
The exhibition will be held across all polling stations, allowing everyone who has registered since 2020 to check their information.
Dr. Quaicoe mentioned that, each polling station should have no more than 750 registered voters.
If a station exceeds this number, it will be divided.
He added, “We are looking at almost 41,000 polling stations across the country.”
The daily schedule for the exhibition will be from 7: am to 6: pm.
Dr. Quaicoe explained that, the machines are linked to a central database, which means that while the process is digital, voters must visit their polling stations in person.
“When you place your hands on the machine, it captures your details from the database,” he clarified.
Dr. Quaicoe urged the general public to participate actively in the exhibition exercise, ensuring that their information is accurately reflected in the register.
The EC is also optimistic about registering between 50,000 to 70,000 new voters during the upcoming mop-up voter registration exercise, scheduled from Thursday, August 1 to Saturday, August 3, 2024.
This three-day exercise aims to provide an opportunity for individuals who turned 18 after the recent limited voter registration and those who couldn’t register previously to have their names added to the electoral roll.
