Thomas-Asante set to join George Boateng’s Coventry City

Ghana striker, Brandon Thomas-Asante is set to join Championship side Coventry City from West Brom.

Thomas-Asante had a standout season in the Championship last year, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists for West Bromwich Albion.

His impressive performances drew interest from several clubs, including Hull City, who were close to securing his signature.

However, the deal ultimately fell through.

It appears that George Boateng, Coventry City’s newly appointed first-team coach, played a significant role in Thomas-Asante’s decision to join the Sky Blues.

Boateng had previously called up Thomas-Asante to Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, although the striker did not make the final squad.

He also had a chance to debut for Ghana in a World Cup qualifier against the Central African Republic in June.

Coventry City, who finished ninth in the Championship last season and reached the FA Cup semi-finals, will be counting on Thomas-Asante to enhance their chances of Premier League promotion in the upcoming season.

During his time at West Brom, Thomas-Asante made 39 appearances in the Championship last season, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists.

Over two years at The Hawthorns, he has scored 18 goals in 72 appearances after joining from Salford City for approximately £300,000.

He has been a key player for West Brom, finishing as the club’s top scorer in both of his first two seasons.
