Health Ministry seeks six-month extension to recover over GH¢100K unpaid rent

-

The Ministry of Health has requested a six-month extension to recover approximately 100,000 cedis in unpaid rent from 19 employees who defaulted on payments in 2022.

These employees were housed in official accommodations at Korle Bu and Asylum Down Flats but failed to pay their rent.

The Ministry attributes the defaults to the Financial Controller of the Ministry of Finance not submitting the necessary input forms.

Emma Ofori Agyemang, the Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation at the Ministry, stated that only 11,000 cedis of the total amount has been recovered so far.

She assured the committee that a system is in place to deduct rent from employees’ salaries moving forward.

Mrs. Agyemang requested the six-month extension, saying, “Honourable, please, we are still in the process. Since we have implemented a system to deduct rent and have a draft payment plan to recover the remaining amount beyond the 11,000 that has been settled. Honourable, please, it won’t take more than six months.”
