The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) has appealed to government for financial clearance to hire new staff to enhance the university’s human resources.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Lydia Aziato emphasized the need for this recruitment following the launch of the China Phase Two Extension Project.
She stated that, approximately 450 new employees are needed to ensure the facility’s full operational capacity.
“We would need about 255 staff for Works & Physical Development, 25 ICT professionals, 50 faculty members, 60 heads to man the simulation center, and 50 administrators. We are appealing to be given clearance to employ these staff to ensure the full potential of the Phase Two Expansion Project”, she said.
Prof. Aziato also requested additional logistics, including vehicles, to improve the university’s transportation and administrative capabilities.
President Akufo-Addo inaugurated the China Phase Two Expansion Project at UHAS’s permanent campus in Sokode, located in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region, on Monday, July 29, 2024.
The project is expected to accommodate approximately 2,500 nursing and midwifery students, offer state-of-the-art health training facilities, and create over 400 direct jobs.
The project includes a central administration complex, the largest School of Nursing and Midwifery in West Africa, and a fully-equipped state-of-the-art Simulation Centre.
It also features a neonatal intensive care unit, theatre, pediatric, labour, emergency and surgical wards, clinical and ICT laboratories, and a canteen, among other facilities.
Representing the Chinese Ambassador, Ti Yang, Minister Counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Ghana, highlighted China’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s development agenda.
He noted that the project is part of China’s efforts to improve the country’s health sector infrastructure.
Deputy Minister for Education, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, praised the project as a significant advancement for Ghana’s health sector.
He commended President Akufo-Addo for his vision of establishing a world-class health training center in Ghana to develop the necessary human resources for advancing healthcare across the African continent.
Mr. Ntim Fordjour also acknowledged the contributions of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Owusu Gyapong in ensuring the project’s successful completion.
