Passengers and drivers using the Sawla-Fufulso road arehaved raised urgent concerns about its deteriorating condition over the past three years since its construction in 2012.

Flooding has worsened the situation, leading to weekly increases in transport fares.

Hajia Salamatu Kurabaso, a businesswoman and regular passenger based in Damongo, described the road as a “death trap,” particularly the stretch from Sawla to Damongo.

She noted that, the poor condition of the road has caused many passengers to develop high blood pressure.

Alhassan Iddi, Chairman of the Tamale Drivers Association in Bole, blamed the contractor for the substandard work on the Sawla-Fufulso road, especially between Sawla and Damongo.

He urged the government to take immediate action to repair the road, emphasizing the need to maintain their vehicles and reduce the stress on drivers and passengers alike.

Another passenger, Fati Mahama, highlighted the stress and difficulty of traveling from Bole to Tamale due to the lack of maintenance and the numerous potholes.

She also appealed to the government to ensure that the contractor returns to the site to perform proper repairs.

The passengers and drivers are collectively calling on the government to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Sawla-Fufulso road to ensure safety, reduce transport costs, and improve overall travel conditions.
