National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has launched its Free Annual Health Check-up (AHC) to address non communicable disease burden in Ghana.

AHC is a new inclusion on the NHIS benefit package intended to tackle the burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Ghana.

The Annual Health Check (AHC) is made up of annual blood pressure check, annual blood sugar check, annual body mass index check (height & weight), Counseling and referral when needed.

Individuals can schedule their Free Annual Health Check-up (AHC) with a preferred NHIS-credentialed provider on their birthday or during their birth month.

Management of NHIA believe, this flexibility will allow people to choose a convenient time to undergo their annual health check-up, making it easier to prioritize their health and wellness.

The CEO of NHIA, Dr. Da Costa Aboagye, encouraged all Ghanaians to enroll in the NHIS to benefit from this and other services rendered by the authority.

The launch of AHC is part of NHIA’s 20th-anniversary celebrations and aims to tackle the growing burden of NCDs in Ghana. Dr Aboagye noted that, the initiative is a great step towards promoting preventive healthcare and reducing the burden of NCDs in Ghana.

Adding that, by providing free annual health check-ups, NHIA is empowering citizens to take control of their health and detect potential health issues early.

Executive Director of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), Dr. Peter Yeboah urged the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to provide credited health facilities with data to support their work,  and also pay facilities on time for the services they render to clients.

He noted by supporting credited facilities in these ways, NHIA can help strengthen the healthcare system and improve overall patient care in Ghana.
