Interior Minister Henry Quartey has warned police officers to avoid bringing their untidy behaviour from their barracks to the new housing facility handed over by the government.

He emphasized that the government will not tolerate the unkept behaviour typically seen in police barracks.

During the handing-over ceremony at the depot in Accra on Tuesday, Mr Quartey issued a stern public warning to the police personnel, stating that officers would be required to maintain the facility at all times.

“Often times you go to police barracks, and you see fridges, freezers, bicycles—all manner of things hanging around the buildings,” Quartey said.

He tasked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure that these new buildings do not suffer the same fate.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo commissioned 320 housing units for officers of the Ghana Police Service at the Police Training School in Tesano, Accra, on Tuesday.

The housing units, part of the Security Services Housing Project Phase Three, include 112 two-bedroom and 208 three-bedroom units.

Additional facilities comprise an officers’ mess, a social centre, two multipurpose playing courts, and a kindergarten.

The project is expected to positively impact the lives of police officers and their families, showcasing the government’s dedication to supporting the security services.
