GOtv Premier League Feature – Managerial Changes

-

GOtv Premier League fans have a whole lot to look forward to as the league returns with a few twists and turns. Some teams have decided that they’ll be giving things a shot with a new coach, so let’s take a look at some of the managerial changes in the league thus far.

Fabian Hurzeler – Brighton & Hove Albion

(replaced Roberto De Zerbi)

He made history with joining Brighton and became the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history, at just the age of 31. Holding such a high position at this age says a lot about the Texas-born coach, who has a huge reputation after guiding St. Pauli promotion to the German top-flight. “The club has made incredible progress over the last few seasons and the aim is to continue building on that success. I am relishing the opportunity to coach in the Premier League, and I can’t wait to meet the players, staff and, of course, the fans,” said Hurzeler after joining the club.

Arne Slot – Liverpool

(replaced Jurgen Klopp)

Imagine being the first guy to take the reins after Jurgen Klopp, can’t be easy but Arne Slot makes it look like a walk in the park. He was rather confident in getting the job, and even marketed himself as the perfect candidate to replace Klopp, talk about manifestation. Even Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag spoke about why he thinks Slot is the perfect fit for the Reds. “It is fantastic what Arne has achieved at Feyenoord, how he has helped that club get back on track,” he said. “And the football that Liverpool prefers to play also suits Arne Slot completely. I think it’s a very good match.”

Julen Lopetegui – West Ham United

(replaced David Moyes)

David Moyes decided to say goodbye to West Ham and that gave way for Julen Lopetegui to have a go in the Premier League. The Spanish coach has won the UEFA Europa League and has coached teams such as Real Madrid and the Spain national team. “I am where I want to be. I am here because I want to be here and for us it was a fantastic day when we closed our agreement here because our commitment is 100 per cent to be here. We had other opportunities but I am very happy that West Ham chose me because I chose West Ham too, so we are really happy about this,” said Lopetegui after he joined the team.

Enzo Maresca – Chelsea

(replaced Mauricio Pochettino)

Chelsea have been undergoing what one can describe as growing pains as they’ve continued to navigate life under new ownership. After Mauricio Pochettino had a rather underwhelming spell as the head coach of the London club, Enzo Maresca was given the hot seat. Maresca has his own fair share of accolades and recently promoted Leicester City back into the Premier League before the Blues came knocking. Striker Christopher Nkunku for one is excited to have him around. “The new head coach brings a lot of good ideas to our play,” Nkunku said. “We’re all excited to train under him. It’s just the beginning, and we need to learn and adapt our play according to his methods.”

Steve Cooper – Leicester City

(replaced Enzo Maresca)

With Leicester City losing their manager to Chelsea straight after earning promotion back to the Premier League, they called on Steve Cooper to take over the team. The former England youth manager did a great job at Nottingham Forest by bringing them back to the Premier League and consolidating their top-flight status, though ultimately his relationship with the club owners soured and he departed in December 2023 – even though he was still highly respected by Forest fans. “This is a fantastic club with a rich history and passionate supporters. I am excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League,” Cooper said after joining the 2015/16 Premier League champions.
