2024 polls: All is set to organise credible elections – EC assures Parliament

The Electoral Commission (EC) has provided an update on the preparations for this year’s general elections in Parliament.

The Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensa, discussed the Commission’s efforts to ensure a smooth electoral process and maintain the unity of Ghana.

She stated that, a total of 18.6 million individuals registered in the recent voter registration exercise. Out of this number, 1,341 persons with disabilities registered in the Central region, representing the highest count in a specific region.

She highlighted the EC’s collaboration with security agencies to ensure comprehensive security measures during the elections.

Regarding logistics and personnel, Jean Mensa revealed the recruitment of approximately 210,000 temporary staff. The necessary data and identifications for these officers have been collected to enhance the process.

The EC assured that it is committed to conducting an election that truly reflects the will of the people, emphasizing transparency and credibility.

During the briefing, the Minority Leader, Dr. Ato Forson, urged the EC to ensure a fair and credible election for the betterment of the country.

Deputy Majority Leader, Patricia Appiagyei encouraged the EC to put in place measures for a peaceful elections.
