Residents of Adenta Bawaleshie in the Adenta Municipal District of the Greater Accra Region, have voiced their grievances on the severe challenges they face due to poor road infrastructure and inadequate security measures in their community.
Speaking on People’s Forum, a segment on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Thursday, several residents lamented that, the roads in their area become virtually impassable during the rainy season.
This has severely limited transportation options for residents, especially in emergencies.
“When it rains, we suffer. Even when someone is sick, we struggle to get them to the hospital unless we resort to using motorbikes because cars avoid the roads,” one resident expressed.
A nursing mother recounted her harrowing experience, having to walk long distance to find transport when she was in labour.
“The road is really bad. When my water broke, I couldn’t find transportation to the hospital. I had to walk all the way to the main road to get a car. Even if motorbikes were available, the road conditions I could have fallen. Pregnant women nearing delivery often have to relocate to areas with better hospital access,” she shared.
Parents also expressed concern about their children’s safety, navigating through stagnant water on their way to school.
“We are suffering here. It’s like an automatic holiday for our children when it rains because they can’t go to school,” one resident lamented.
Security concerns were also raised, with residents reporting incidents of robbery and theft becoming more frequent, particularly during the evening hours.
“There is no Police station here, and when we call for help, the response is often delayed or ineffective,” one resident shared.
The residents therefore appealed to government and urged immediate intervention to alleviate their longstanding challenges to ensure the safety in the community.
“We are also Ghanaians and deserve better living conditions,” they emphasized.
