Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in health have confirmed that the government has finally cleared all the medical supplies that had been stuck at the Tema Port for the past year.
This action follows significant agitation from stakeholders and the Minority caucus in Parliament over the prolonged delays in clearing the medical supplies donated by the Global Fund.
The Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, had assured that the supplies would be cleared within two weeks.
The acting Chairman of the Ghana Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund, Ernest Amoabeng, indicated that distribution to the regions has commenced, with the warehouse transporting the goods in batches.
“I can confirm to you that the clearing of the containers is still ongoing. Last week we visited the warehouse that has been taking delivery of the containers, and we were told that all the containers have been released by the port.
“So they were carting them from the port to the warehouse. As of Monday this week, we received information that the last batch chit that was needed from the GRA for the release of the 64 that was still outstanding has been issued.
“So, I can confirm to you that technically, all the containers have been released by the government from the port,” he stated in an interview with Citi News.
