Minister for Trade and Industry, Kobina Tahir Hammond is calling for formal recognition of his new title after completing the Hajj pilgrimage.

The legislator insists that ‘Alhaji’ should be officially included in his name within parliamentary records.

Speaking in Parliament, he quizzed that “I am the new Alhaji in Parliament why has that not been announced and recorded.”

The Islamic holy rites of Hajj have just concluded, resulting in a new batch of Alhaji’s and Hajia’s, including the MP for Adansi Asokwa and Minister for Trade and Industry, K.T. Hammond.

The MP criticized his parliamentary whip for failing to announce his new title before his return from Saudi Arabia.

“I’m told that the bill preceded my attendance in Parliament and that it was announced. Is that true? Has it not been announced? Mr. Speaker, has it not been announced that there are new Alhaji’s in this chamber? I want it recorded and recorded properly that we have new Alhaji’s.”

He has also directed the Clerk to Parliament to ensure that his title as Alhaji is reflected in official parliamentary documents.

“Mr Speaker that’s the information for the house the record will accordingly or should reflect the new names, you should make sure that it is properly reflected,” he added.
